Get Punk-ed!

Last night was the 2013 Met Gala featuring the new “Punk: From Chaos to Couture” exhibit, which meant the theme of the night was “Punk”, what a fun theme and great change of pace from the typical red carpet!  Below are my faves from the night and of course….my least faves.

Jessica Biel: I love how it is formal with that touch of “punk” through the fishnet style leggings! The ensemble: strapless black Giambattista Valli top with floor-length train over leggings The bling: Fred Leighton’s 1920s platinum and diamond cuff bracelet, Art Deco asscher cut diamond bracelet and 1920s diamond and platinum Art Deco bracelet

For Nicole Richie, it is about the overall look, the dress wouldn’t work without the hair and lips and vice verse. The dress: Long-sleeved white Topshop column gown with white-on-white floral pattern

No holding back here for Sarah Jessica Parker, just what I imagined “punk” would look like on Miss “Sex in the City”! The dress: Giles Deacon watercolor dress The hat: Philip Treacy punk couture hat The bag: Giles Deacon The shoes: Christian Louboutin boots The bling: Fred Leighton

Sophisticated “punk”, who knew?! That is what Cameron Diaz is giving it last night! The dress: Stella McCartney blue crepe gown with cape and gold spiked belt The shoes: Stella McCartney platform stud sandals

Nina Dobrev: I think this look is “punk”, in a gala kind of way! The dress: Custom Monique Lhuillier black Chantilly lace molded bustier jumpsuit with black leather harness tulle overskirt with horsehair trim The bag: Edie Parker’s “Lara” Clutch in Silver

Coco Rocha: I love her combination of hard and soft with a long gown, gold accents and then black booties with the dark pulled back hair. The dress: Leopard-print long-sleeved Ungaro column dress

Cristina Ricci: This is what I envision when I envision a punk girl at a gala. The dress: Turquoise silk taffeta McAndrew Tartan corset gown from the Vivienne Westwood Couture collection The shoes: Casadei’s black patent leather platform criss-cross strap pumps The bling: Harry Winston

Leslie Mann: This is another, “I am wearing a ball gown but with punk attitude” moment for me-love it! The dress: J Mendel Cara Delevingne The dress: Burberry

And now for the ones that I don’t understand.  With a fun theme like “punk”, I expected more of some of the attendees; and if they decided not to go with the theme at all I would have hoped they would have been stunning.

Kristen Stewart: I don’t understand this, it isn’t flattering and it is out of date in my opinion. The dress: Stella McCartney Bordeux silk gown with lace embroidery The shoes: Stella McCartney studded pumps

Kim Kardashian: I just flat out don’t understand why she was going for the look of her Grandmother’s draperies…overboard Kim! On her: Long Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci custom dress in flower printed jersey with silver eyelets details worn with matching gloves

Gwyneth Paltrow: I love you Gwynie but neck to floor pink taffeta, not so much! The dress: Custom Valentino Haute Couture Corolle gown in pink coral with an insert of nude tulle around the shoulders

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: Where were they going, to the premiere of That 60’s show? Wrong event for those dresses ladies! Mary-Kate Olsen The ensemble: Vintage Chanel Haute Couture Gown, vintage Balmain jacket The shoes: Louis Vuitton The bling: Sidney Garber Ashley: The dress: Long-sleeved Christian Dior Haute Couture column gown with a sheer orange overlay The shoes: Manolo Blahnik The bling: Sidney Garber

Elle Fanning: Bad tie die with a big bib and really bad make-up…I think she got dressed in the dark or entranced by the tie die. The dress: Rodarte

Nicki Minaj: She looks like she woke up yesterday scratching her head about what to wear, I see no thought in this and the flap connecting the bodice and bottom is not doing anything for me. The dress: Navy Tommy Hilfiger cutout dress

Heidi Klum: I love Heidi, Miss Project Runway herself, but this does not look high fashion to me at all, it looks mid 90’s to me. I really thought she would be someone that would embrace the “punk” theme. The dress: Gray duchess satin embroidered corset paired with draped fishtail skirt, all by Marchesa The bag: Marchesa feather and crystal embroidered handbag The shoes: Christian Louboutin The bling: Harry Winston

Uma Thurman: Does this color look good on anyone head to toe in this fabric? This looks early 90’s at best and those bows look like props a small plane, I am very confused by this choice. The dress: Form-fitting green gown with structured bows and fishtail skirt

Julianne Moore: What can I say, another bad early 90’s moment. The color and fit are all off! If she went with the hair style she chose and expounded upon that, I am confident she would have had a better look, the hair and the gown don’t mesh. The dress: Balenciaga The bling: Irene Neuwirth 18k yellow gold bracelet and earrings set with Colombian emeralds
