My 5 1/2 year old niece’s favorite saying is “That is (or isn’t) fanc” as in you are (or aren’t) dressed fancy! My 6 year old niece looks her mother up and down before she leaves the house and sometimes says “are you going to wear that in public?”(rest assured she isn’t) with her nose crinkled and “that look”…holy cow people, yes we and by “we” I mostly mean me, have created some fashion monsters for sure!! While they may be not be 100% accurate, I have a feeling they will be my styling assistants some day. The fashion lesson here is, we can be cute without being “fanc”.
I so often have people tell me “I don’t go anywhere, I don’t do anything, therefore I don’t need to look nice”. What??? Are you telling me you don’t go to the grocery store, or your children’s school, or the mall, or Target, or to dinner…somehow I don’t believe that, and of course the response is always “Well, of course I do those things but…”; let me stop you right there!! One of my strong beliefs is that public is public, just because you aren’t going to a black tie gala doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look put together. I know, I know, a lot of you don’t have time but I promise you it takes the same amount of time to put on a cute top, jeans that fit and sandals as it does an old t-shirt, jeans that are way too big and old tennis shoes and you will feel so much better! It may take 30 extra seconds to put on earrings and a bracelet but I am hear to say I have a new baby and I make it work so you can too. Looking cute and put together does not mean you have to be “fanc” everyday, it simply means wearing cute, well fitting items that make you feel good, to feel good is to look good! Not to mention that many of my clients have told me that wearing clothes that fit properly is the fastest weight they have ever lost, now tell me, who doesn’t want that?!
The workout gear uniform: Workout clothes are fabulous and these days, they are mostly really cute, and they are great…for working out! I am not going to lie, you will often see me around town in workout clothes, do you know why? Because I just came from workout! If I am wearing workout clothes to somewhere other than workout (before or after workout) I always try to have a finishing piece (or pieces) on; a finishing piece can be a cute, light weight jacket, earrings and a bracelet, cute shoes that you change into, you get the idea! There are so many cute clothes in the world, let’s save workout clothes for workout.
So what does looking cute and put together, but not necessarily “fanc” look like?
For the Woman/Mom on the go:
For the Woman that works in a casual work environment:
Most offices are kept cold, so rid yourself of that old dingy cardigan on the back of your chair and keep one of these jackets on hand, both of which have been purchased by clients and I love:
Next time you are headed out the door to run errands, throw on some earrings and that fun, floral top you have been waiting to wear-you will feel better, I promise!Back to Blog
